Students struggled with…

  • Describing a simulation to investigate a scenario and creating a process to reflect the probability given.
  • Creating Venn diagrams from a story problem. Many students did not subtract the overlap when filling in the circles for each event.

Remedies…

  • Remind students that the probability of the process they propose must match the probability given in the scenario.  Many students used coin flips to model something that should be 75%.
  • Encourage students to make a two-way table before making a Venn diagram.  Finding the parts are much easier in a two-way table. Once the table is made, the Venn diagram can be made from that.
